After dinner, we made our way back to Scala (the port of Patmos) to participate in mass. Each year, a flame from a location special to the Greek Orthodox In Jerusalem is flown to Greece and is taken to Patmos first and then spread throughout the Greek Isles.
We participated in a local mass and had our candles lit by the Jerusalem flame.
When midnight struck, all bells on the island rang, the horns on the cruise ships sounded, and fireworks went off (both official and unofficial – very much like the Fourth of July).
We arrived at Santorini tomorrow at 8 AM.
